Meet the dynamic founders of HFW Learning Center, the powerhouse mother-daughter duo Tandra Birkett and Yvonne Jewnell. With a rich background in the fashion industry, the visionaries behind Harlem Fashion Week, a trailblazing organization that stands as one of the most influential in the realm of New York Fashion Week.
Yvonne and Tandra, both accomplished educators and leaders in the fashion sector, bring a wealth of experience, boasting a combined tenure of 25 years in the field. Yvonne Jewnell is an alumna of Parsons The New School, while Tandra Birkett holds her credentials from Columbia University, Teachers College.
Recognized for their outstanding contributions, Tandra and Yvonne have been honored with prestigious awards from The National Council of Negro Women, The Fashion 500, The Council of the City of New York, New York State Assembly, New York State Senate, and "Women in the Black." Their brainchild, Harlem Fashion Week, has garnered widespread acclaim and media coverage, securing features in over 100 major publications, including Vogue Italia, Ozy.com, Racked.com, The New Yorker Magazine, Paper Magazine, The Root.com, Refinery 29, Essence, Fashion Week Online, Getty Images, and the book "Race Capital?: Harlem as Setting and Symbol," among numerous others.
